Services

SKI FOR LIFE provides cross-country ski instruction in the form of individual or group sessions, all day sessions for hotels, inns or retreat entrees, organization/school sessions and for special events such as birthdays or family reunions.

Included with the sessions is the necessary equipment needed for a successful day of skiing for adults and children (preferably ages 8 and up but we will include younger students, if parents are on hand). Warm comfortable boots and step-in bindings are available (not the old 3-pin
style) as well as the skis themselves and poles. The included rentals make it unnecessary for the newcomers to make a large equipment investment before trying to ski. Past Ski For Life participants have enjoyed the outings to the extent that many are anxious to go out and purchase their own equipment.

Single Day or Two Day Sessions Organization / School Sessions
Resorts, bed and breakfasts, or hotels seeking to provide all day events for people staying in their facilities. These will be held at sites where flat terrain, some slopes and inviting forest trails are found not commercial ski entrees. Sessions will have indoor periods interspersed for instruction, videos and breaks in a relaxed convivial atmosphere. A timetable for this extended period can be set up by Dan in collaboration with a group organizer to accommodate people of a variety of fitness levels. Some may require more recovery time than others. Physical Education classes, outdoor activity clubs, scout and guide groups can be booked for single one and a half hour lessons at reasonable rates ($6.00 to $8.00 - depending on location) in groups of no more than 15. We can do one in the a.m. and one in the p.m. We can come to your location in most cases. Parks and playgrounds with varying terrain and conservation areas are suitable, but keep in mind there should be indoor access for booting up and washrooms. Parental permission forms with a good behaviour clause and legal waiver form are required. With most school and all scout guides groups a teacher or leader should be on hand.
Individual / Group Sessions Special Events
Individuals or groups such as friends or family seeking to have private lessons. Outings for special events such as birthdays, family reunions, team parties etc. can be arranged at a suitable site of your choice.
Program for Home Educators and Retreat Centres Newly retired (50-60+)
Jackrabbit did not hang up his skis

The lesson site is your option but we strongly suggest an area with some flat terrain adjacent to a warming area with washroom access suitable for changing footwear, enjoying snack-break, and some preliminary verbal instruction. We have contacts with retreat entrees in your area if you wish to utilize them. They could provide lunch at a cost and there may be a day-use fee. The lesson will be geared for beginners but novice and intermediate skiers will find the drills and games valuable for brushing up on technique. We will focus on the classic style of skiing but can spend some instructional time on skating techniques for those who wish. Our rental equipment is designed for classic.

Lesson duration: half day
Lesson cost: $15 per adult, $10 per child
Group size: 12-15 persons

Learn to cross-country ski or brush up on your skills to get you to the point where you can go to a groomed trail location with confidence. The great canadian legend of cross-country skiing Jackrabbit Johannsen did not hang up his skis until age 111. You have a few years left.
Qualified CANSI instructor Dan Mahony (in his 60th year) offers a non-threatening games approach to this vigorous sport where fun paves the path to fitness.
Beginner, novice and intermediate skiers will find plenty of useful tips on mastering basic skills, and come to appreciate the beauty and boundless opportunity of our great canadian winters. (This workshop will not provide instruction on advanced racing techniques, but Dan is a competent skate-skier and can introduce you, at some point, to skate-skiing).
Grandparents, you will find you have a whole new sporting activity to share with those grand kids.
Avoid the noise, crowds and traffic of weekends and take the advantage of reduced rates by joining our weekday retreat.
